Guiding Hand School offers educational programming for students with developmental disabilities beginning at age 6 and continuing through age 21. We serve students from Gallia County Local School and Gallipolis City Schools. Classes are limited to 8 students with a teacher and an aide in each room. Placement in the program is determined by the IEP team and is based on information provided by evaluations, observations, and parent and teacher input.

The curriculum includes functional academics, daily living skills, physical education, art, and music. We provide specialized in-house services to meet each child’s needs such as Speech Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and Physical Therapy. We also coordinate with Hopewell Health Systems to provide behavioral, social and emotional support for students.

Transition planning is provided to assist the child and family in moving smoothly into the next phase of educational, vocational, or residential programs.

Local school districts provide transportation to and from school. Buses are wheelchair accessible. Other adaptations are provided, if required, to meet each student’s needs.

Breakfast and lunch are prepared and served daily. Special dietary needs are met, with medical authorization.

Other offered services include:

  • Behavior Management
  • Services and Supports Administration
  • Nursing
  • Parent Training
  • Supportive Living
  • Family Resources Program

The Gallia County Board of Developmental Disabilities is committed to providing a school environment that endures opportunities for all students to practice healthy eating and physical activity throughout the day. The Board strives to teach students how to make informed choices about nutrition, health, and physical activity.
